About HolyShitzu

Yes, we know, we know.  We misspelled Shitzu.  Officially, its Shih Tzu.  Maybe we where havin’ a bit of fun when we created the url, or that quick taste of Grandma’s private  hooch got us off to a bad start.  Well, in bike ridin’ parlance, you run what you brung, and what matters most is that we have fun with our little slice of the internets.  So if you catch us using Shitzu, well, so solly cholly.  (It’s still probably the hooch.)

HolyShitzu! is run by Kathie and Robert Garcia.  Yes, might as well give it up, we are the proud Mommy and Poppi of Maxine, the Shih Tzu puppy with the reindeer get up.  We brought Maxxie into our lives for a couple of reasons, most importantly as a healing companion after the loss of both our father’s in the same year, just a few months apart.  The little ball of fur was probably the best medicine we could have ever hoped for and gotten.  Maxine the Shitzu pup is a wonderful pet and member of our little family, and probably going to be an awesome big sis when our babies decide on showing up.

Shih Tzu are an ancient dog breed, created to be the perfect companion dog.  The name means Lion Dog, because of it’s similarity to lion depictions in classical oriental art.  The Shih Tzu was the house pet during the Ming Dynasty, so now you know where that Royal Attitude comes from.  Shitzus can be sweet, loving and playful dogs, but when they get a loungin’, might as just accept the fact that you’re in the company of  Imperial majesty, and about three points down on the importance meter.  Unless of course if you have that oh so awesome slice of Turkey, then it’s all “Who’s your buddy?…”

A common misconception about Shitzus is that they are hypoallergenic.  They are not 100% hypoallergenic, however, their silky double coat hair is incredibly similar to human hair, constantly growing, sharing a lot of the same properties.  People with allergies who want to own a dog can definitely check out the Shih Tzu, as you’ve got a good chance of not being affected by their dander.

But probably the most awesome thing about owning a Shitzu is the entertainment value.  They are, in native Miami Spanglish parlance, Tremendo Show.  I don’t think anybody would call the Shitzu the most athletic pup in the world, and just one trip to the park will give you the lowdown on how coordinated they are, which is not alot.  In fact, it’s a pretty good guess that they are not going to be great sheep dogs, unless they are asleep on top of the sheep; or rescue dogs, unless you want to be rescued from a a bowl of spaghetti.  You need a hard working sleigh dog?  I’d suggest you look at another breed, unless you want a sleigh dog that works in a more supervisory position, from the back of the sleigh, in deep thought, that resembles sleeping.

Please enjoy our semi-daily dose of Shih Tzu lovliness.  Remember to have fun, be open, and share.
